BLOOMINGTON, Ill. –The Bloomington Extreme (3-1) forced four turnovers, including three interceptions and a fumble, while racking up 172-yards of total offense en route to a 40-10 win over the Sioux City Bandits (0-3) Saturday night at U.S Cellular Coliseum. The Extreme held the Bandits scoreless in three quarters, while rattling off 30 unanswered points. Laroche Jackson led the defensive surge with two interceptions, while Mitch Tanney threw for two touchdowns, connecting on 16-of-24 passes.
The Extreme jumped to an early 7-0 lead after Soso Brooks rumbled into end zone for his league –leading sixth rushing touchdown early in the first quarter. This was the only score of the quarter, as the Bandits were held scoreless after a turnover on downs and a missed field goal.
The Bandits got on the board with 12:30 to go in the second quarter when Andrew Kroell connected on a field goal, cutting the lead to 7-3. Pete Christofilakos of the Extreme countered with a 45-yard field goal of his own, to push the lead back to 10-3. Bloomington went into halftime with a 17-10 lead, after Tanney found Peter Warrick on a slant route in the back of the end zone.
Robert Redd’s 6-yard touchdown run with 3:14 remaining in the third quarter extended the Extreme’s lead to 27-10. James Temple picked off his second pass of the year, which he returned 40-yards into the promise land to give the Extreme a 33-10 lead with 10:20 to go in the game. Derin Graham scored the final touchdown of the night for the Extreme on a 7-yard TD reception. Bloomington held Sioux City scoreless in the second half.
The Extreme will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., to square-off with the Colorado Ice at the Budweiser Events Center at 7 p.m. MST.
