Screaming Eagles Sign Former CFL DB

Former All-American cornerback Don Unamba has signed with the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles.

Unamba, a three-year starter at Southern Arkansas, is the sixth defensive back to signed by Coach McCarthy and his team of scouts. As a senior with the Muleriders in 2012, he recorded three interceptions and set a school record with 17 pass breakups, earning him All-Great American Conference honors and All-American honors. In all, he had 141 tackles, nine interceptions and 39 pass breakups in his college career.

After departing SAU, the 6-foot-1, 195-pounder initially signed with the St. Louis Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2013 before being released in June of the same year. A month later, he signed with the Buffalo Bills and partook in training camp. Unamba was released shortly before the start of the 2013 season.

The Texas native then took his talents to the Canadian Football League, where he played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2014) and Saskatchewan Roughriders (2015). He had 23 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble in 2014 – and was second in the NFL in special teams tackles – followed by 19 tackles, one sack and another forced fumble in 2015.
