DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (2-1) won on the road 49-30 against the Green Bay Blizzard (1-2) Sunday afternoon at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
In the first quarter, the Barnstormers started out strong iwth an early touchdown from receiver Ryan Balentine. Green Bay answered back with a one yard rushing touchdown from linebacker Karl Mickelsen ending the quarter in a tie, 7-7.
The second quarter began with a Blizzard interception, followed by a touchdown from receiver Marquel Willis giving Green Bay a 14-7 lead. The Barnstormers responded with a pair of touchdowns from running back Rasheed Williams and receiver Brady Roland, leading 21-14. Green Bay held posession at the close of the first half, but a pick 6 by linebacker Javicz Jones increased Iowa's lead 27-14 going into halftime.
The second half started off slow for both teams with no scoring in the first ten minutes. A safety by Jones and noseguard Mark Crawford brought back momentum for the Barnstormers and was followed by a 3 yard rushing touchdown from Partridge, 35-21. Green Bay answered with a 9 yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Matt Behrendt, closing the scoring gap 35-21.
The fourth quarter began with a touchdown from Blizzard receiver Darryl Ragsdale. A Green Bay safety continued to close the scoring gap, 35-30. A pair of rushing touchdowns from Partridge and Williams gave the Barnstormers a significant lead, sealing the victory 49-30.
