Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Barnstormers (4-2) won their second consecutive game with a 27-26 win over the Green Bay Blizzard (2-4) Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Arena.
Starting off the game, the Blizzard struck first with a one yard touchdown run from running back Darry Ragsdale. Iowa quickly answered back when quarterback Travis Partridge found receiver Ryan Balentine for a 28 yard touchdown, making the score 7-6. Green Bay regained the lead when Ragsdale found the end zone for the second time, 12-7.
After nearly 12 minutes of scoreless action in the second quarter, Iowa took a 14-12 lead when Partridge found receiver Lucas Hefty for a five yard touchdown pass. On the defensive side, linebacker Javicz Jones halted the Blizzard rushing attack racking up two tackles for loss and picking up one sack during the first half, while defensive lineman B.J. Butler batted down two crucial Green Bay passes. The Barnstormers went into halftime with a 14-12 lead.
In the second half, the Blizzard kept on the ground when Ragsdale scored his third rushing touchdown of the game giving Green Bay a 19-14 lead, which was the only score of the quarter. In the fourth, Green Bay kept the momentum going when quarterback Jarred Evans found receiver Marquel Willis for a 25 yard touchdown pass, 26-14. Iowa scored its first touchdown of the second half when running back Keshaudas Spence scored on a two yard run, 26-21. With near a minute to play, Partridge found receiver Brady Roland for a 31 yard touchdown pass giving Iowa a 27-26 lead. On the last hope for Green Bay, several false start penalties moved the ball to inside of their own five yard line leading to a Hail Mary attempt that was intercepted by defensive back DaeJohn Love, sealing the game for the Barnstormers, 27-26.
