Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Barnstormers (8-2) extended its winning streak to six consecutive games with a 41-34 win over the Green Bay Blizzard Saturday night at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
The Barnstormers started the game off on the wrong foot when defensive back Dee Maggitt Jr. fumbled the opening kickoff. Green Bay would capitalize on the Iowa turnover and score on its next possession. Iowa got back on track when quarterback Travis Partridge ran in a 17 yard score, 7-7. Maggitt Jr. would redeem himself by picking off Blizzard quarterback Matt Behrendt and taking it back for a touchdown, 14-7. The Iowa lead would not last long as Green Bay's Tyrell Pearson took the kick off back for a touchdown, 14-14. Near the end of the first quarter, Partridge would run in a 25 yard score, 21-14. In the second quarter, Green Bay would score the only points of the quarter by tacking on a 22 yard field goal from kicker Jeff Budzien, 21-17.
Starting the third quarter, the Iowa defense showed how dominant they have been all year when defensive back Jamie Bender stripped the Blizzard on its first possession of the second half and then defensive back Bryce Enyard picked off Green Bay on the following drive. Iowa extended its lead when Partridge ran in his third rushing score of the game, 28-17. Green Bay stuck to the ground when Darryl Ragsdale ran in a two yard score and then to start the fourth quarter, would run in a score at the goal line, 31-28. Iowa would regain the lead when Partridge would call his own number to score his fourth rushing touchdown of the game, 34-31.
The Blizzard would tie it when Budzien would kick his second field goal of the game, 34-34. Iowa stuck to the ground game with under a minute to play when Partridge would run in his fifth rushing score of the game sealing the deal for the Barnstormers, 41-34. Iowa's Dee Maggitt would crush Green Bay's last chance when he intercepted the Blizzard to secure the victory.
