Four More Rattlers Return For 2018

Phoenix, Ariz. - The Arizona Rattlers announced Wednesday that they have re-signed defensive back Allen Chapman, defensive lineman Josh Gordon, defensive lineman Justin Martin, and quarterback Darron Thomas for the 2018 Indoor Football League (IFL) season.  All four players were members of the 2017 IFL championship team.

DB Chapman (5-11, 195, Kansas State) is entering his fourth season in Arizona (2014, 16-present).  Last season, Chapman earned first team All-IFL honors after leading the league in total passes defended with 22.  He also ranked second in the league in interceptions (8).

Chapman was picked up by the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent where he was signed to a rookie contract, but was cut on August 25th of that season when the team made its final cuts. In 2015 Chapman tallied 10.5 tackles and an interception in two games with the Portland Thunder, while in 2014 he collected 43 tackles and three interceptions in 12 games as a rookie with the Rattlers.

Chapman spent two seasons at Kansas State, where he totaled 107 tackles, seven interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns, and 15 passes defended. He logged career-highs with 57 tackles, five interceptions and ten pass breakups as a senior in 2012. Chapman began collegiate career at City College of San Francisco where he collected 39 tackles, 15 interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a sack.

The San Francisco, California native attended Oak Grove High School in San Jose where he played corner and some running back. He finished his high school career with a total of 105 tackles and six interceptions. Three of his interceptions were returned for touchdowns.

DL Gordon (6-1, 250, Minnesota State) is entering his second season with the team.  In his first season, Gordon recorded 40.5 tackles, six sacks, and a forced fumble.

Gordon holds several school records for the Minnesota State Mavericks.  He is the single season sack leader (17.5 sacks), the career sack leader (43 sacks) and career tackles for loss (63 TFL).  He was also named the NSIC Defensive Player of the Year, and received All-NSIC First Team accolades his senior season.  Gordon received All-American honors in both his junior and senior seasons.

The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native attended Wisconsin Lutheran High School where he was a two-year starter for the Vikings.

DL Martin (6-2, 275, Arkansas Tech) will enter his second season with the Rattlers. Last year, Martin recorded 14 tackles, seven for a loss, 1.5 sacks and a blocked kick for Arizona.

Martin played at Arkansas Tech University. In 2013, he recorded 55 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a fumble recovery for the Wonder Boys.

The Crossett, Arkansas native attended Crossett High School, where he was a multi-sport athlete, competing in football, baseball and track.

QB Thomas (6-3, 215, Oregon) will be entering his second season with the Rattlers.  Thomas started four games last season for the team, during which he completed 54 passes for 576 yards, 13 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a passer rating of 102.55.

Thomas spent two seasons in the Arena Football League (AFL) for the Portland Thunder/Steel, and in 2015 earned the starting spot at quarterback.  He also spent time in 2012 with the Canadian Football League's (CFL) Calgary Stampeders.

Thomas attended the University of Oregon where he had earned a record of 24-3 as a starter and led the Ducks to two Pac-12 Championships. In 2011 his team went undefeated in the regular season and made an appearance in the 2011 BCS National Championship Game, and was named as a 2nd Team All-Pac-10 Conference selection.

The Houston, Texas native attended Aldine High School where he was lauded by as the sixth-best player at his position in the country.  He was also named a PrepStar All-American in his senior year.
