DES MOINES – The Iowa Barnstormers have signed defensive lineman Jareid Combs to the 2018 roster, Head Coach Dixie Wooten announced today.
Combs (6-3, 266, University of North Texas) joins the Iowa Barnstormers for his first season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Collegiately, Combs began his career at Iowa Central Community College where he played for two seasons. During his time at Iowa Central, Combs racked up 25 sacks, earned the title of Team Captain, and was ranked the number 12 defensive end in the nation. In 2015, Combs transferred to the University of North Texas. During the 2015 season, Combs played in all 12 games where he collected 21 total tackles and was credited for three quarterback hurries from his defensive end spot. In 2016, Combs appeared in 13 games with the Mean Green where he collected 43 total tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Following his college career, Combs earned a spot at the New York Jets 2017 Rookie Minicamp. Combs appeared in a pre-season game with the Jets, but ultimately did not make the final roster.
"Jareid is a very talented football player," said Coach Wooten. "He is a great pass rusher and he is very strong on stopping the run. He is an NFL talent that will be back playing on Sundays real soon."
Coach Wooten expects to see Combs bring the same drive and determination to camp that he brought to the Jets. "I want him to come to camp hungry, determined, and working his tail off to make it back to the NFL," said Wooten.
