Storm Add Defensive Rookie of the Year

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm are pleased to announce the signing of defensive back Trey Wafford for the 2018 season. 

Wafford was named the 2017 IFL Defensive Rookie of the Year while playing for the Nebraska Danger. He emerged as one of the most physical defensive playmakers in the IFL after he concluded his rookie campaign with 129 tackles, six tackles for loss and 12 pass breakups. His 129 tackles ranked second in the IFL. Trey posted double-digit tackles in five games and was a First-Team All-IFL Defensive Back at the conclusion of the season.

Trey (5'11, 200lbs) played collegiately at Middle Tennessee State University where he finished his senior season ranked sixth on the team in tackles with 53. In his final year at  Middle Tennessee State University, he tallied 7.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, three hurries and three pass breakups.

"Trey is a safety that can play so many different positions," said Head Coach Kurtiss Riggs. "He was Defensive Rookie of the Year and could have been Defensive Player of the Year. We are excited to have Trey's athleticism and leadership in our system."
