BARNSTORMERS RAIN ON STORM
The Barnstormers won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball. Quarterback
Darius-James Peterson rushed in for a 35-yard touchdown on third down, quickly putting his team up 7-0. The Storm fired back fast, as their quarterback, Daniel Smith, rushed in for a touchdown of his own. On the Barnstormers' next possession, Peterson threw an interception to Storm DB Famus Hasty. Kicker Sawyer Petre capitalized with a field goal, putting the Storm up 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Barnstormers started the second quarter with a successful fourth down attempt and touchdown pass to WR
Dom McNeil. Petre scored his second field goal of the night on the Storms next possession, moving his team to within one. However, the Barnstormers scored another touchdown on their next drive, putting them ahead 21-13.
The Storm answered back with a receiving touchdown by WR Carlos Thompson Jr. The Barnstormers defense scored a safety on their next possession, but a Peterson interception led to a 40-yard field goal by Petre. The score was tied at the half, 23-23.
The Storm received the ball to start the third quarter, as RB Nate Chavious rushed in for a touchdown to put his team ahead. A long kick return by
Alvin Bailey helped set up a Barnstormers touchdown by Peterson and tied the game at 30. The Storm answered back with a touchdown from Thompson and they gained the lead again. The Barnstormers offense took over and Peterson rushed in for another touchdown. A missed extra point by Rui put the Barnstormers behind 37-36 with just 13 minutes to go.
After a long defensive possession by the Barnstormers, they forced a fumble in the end zone and took over. Looking for the lead, Peterson threw a touchdown pass to McNeil. Another missed PAT by Rui made the score 42-37. The Barnstormers were charged with their final timeout of the game with 3:30 left when Head Coach
Dave Mogensen threw out a challenge flag and failed to get the call. However, DB
JR Stevens intercepted Smith in the end zone, which set up a Rui field goal. This put the Barnstormers ahead 45-37 with less than a minute to go. Rui put the game away with a 62-yard field goal on the kickoff, rewarding his team 2 points.
After a hard fought battle, the Barnstormers beat the Storm for the second time this season, 47-37.
The Barnstormers will head to Massachusetts next week to take on the Pirates (3-0) for the first time this season. Kickoff is set for 7:05 P.M. at the DCU Center.
