Hosting the undefeated, perennial power Arizona Rattlers Saturday night, the Fighters saw their five-game win streak come to a halt after falling behind early.

The Rattlers (6-0) powered out to a 21-0 advantage courtesy of three Drew Powell touchdown throws in the first frame, building a lead that proved to be too much for Frisco to get over.

The Fighters’ Blake Sims found the league’s scoring leader in Justin Rankin and then Damion Ford in the second quarter, but the guests returned the kickoff after the second score for a touchdown to keep their distance with Frisco (5-2).

The Fighters faced a 10-point halftime deficit, but could only put up points twice in the last half hour, both times on TJ Edwards scampers.

The second of which — and a two-point conversion — with 6:07 to go brought Frisco within one possession. However, as it had seemingly all night, Arizona’s top-rated attack answered.

Cameron Hilton picked off three passes and Cedric Poole one more in a losing effort. Charles Williams scooped up a fumble for a defensive score prior to halftime.

The Fighters are now 0-2 in the all-time series with the Rattlers. The teams will meet again on May 21 in Arizona.
