FIGHTERS GROUND KNIGHT HAWKS
FRISCO – For the second straight week, TJ Edwards came up big for the Fighters, accounting for five total touchdowns on the way to a 42-21 home victory over the Vegas Knight Hawks.
A mishandled snap deep in Frisco (8-2) territory closed the book on an early scoring chance for the guests, allowing the Fighters to set the tone with a nine-play, 44-yard march on their first possession.
After punching in the go-ahead touchdown against Arizona last week, Edwards wheeled in from seven yards out to get Frisco on the board. He’d rush for another score on his team’s next series.
The Knight Hawks (4-7) wiped away the 14-point deficit with a pair of responses in the second frame, but Edwards’ third scoring surge of the night – which came with two ticks left in the half – restored the Fighters’ lead for good.
Edwards’ 15-yard pass to LaQuvionte Gonzalez were the only points of the third quarter. Santos Ramirez picked off a Cameron Dukes pass as the period expired, and the Fighters capped the ensuing drive with a connection between an unusual battery.
Edwards bought time with his legs and lasered a touchdown to fellow quarterback Blake Sims five minutes after the takeaway.
The Frisco defense, which limited Vegas to a touchdown in the last half hour, forced three turnovers and stifled the Knight Hawks on the ground, holding them to 2.3 yards per carry.
The Fighters will hit the road to clash with Bismarck next Saturday.
