FIGHTERS OPEN PLAYOFFS WITH A WIN OVER THE BARNSTORMERS
The Fighters shut the lights out on Iowa’s championship hopes at home on Saturday night. With a resounding 64-39 victory over the Barnstormers, Frisco is one step closer to the ultimate goal.
It was the fourth time this season that the Fighters surpassed 60 points in a contest.
After trading scores with the Barnstormers in the opening stanza, Frisco pulled away in the second frame with 20 unanswered points. That stretch saw touchdowns by TJ Edwards, Jerminic Smith, and a pick-six by Santos Ramirez.
Justin Rankin punched the ball in almost halfway through the third quarter, and Edwards in the fourth — both in response to scores by the visitors.
In total, Rankin and Edwards combined for six touchdowns on the ground. Wideout Jerminic Smith added two receiving strikes. The home team held a comfortable advantage for the entirety of the second half.
Up next for the Fighters is Quad City, who Frisco has beaten twice already this season.
