The Green Bay Blizzard fell to the Frisco Fighters in a lopsided battle to kick off both teams’ 2023 season.
Running back Terrence Smith scored on the Blizzard’s opening possession, running the ball in for an 8-yard touchdown. Frisco’s quarterback T.J. Edwards responded with a score of his own to tie the game 6-6.
Logan Justus hit a 24-yard field goal to briefly put Green Bay back in the lead before Frisco went up 13-9. To close off the first quarter, receiver Steve Newbold hauled in a huge 34-yard catch from Ja’rome Johnson. At the end of Q1, the Blizzard led 16-13.
Frisco dominated the remainder of the half, scoring 27 unanswered points in the second quarter. Edwards and Ed West both had two touchdowns, putting the Fighters up 46-16 at halftime.
Newbold caught his second touchdown pass of the night midway through the third quarter, this time from Max Meylor, making it 52-23.
Following a Fighters field goal from Bryce Crawford, Smith found the endzone for the second time as the third quarter winded down with a 3-yard score. Heading into Q4, the Blizzard were down 30-55.
Edwards ran in two more TDs in the fourth quarter, and Kordell Jackson finished the game with a pick-six off Meylor.
Final score: Frisco 76, Green Bay 30.
