BARNSTORMERS GET BLASTED BY BLIZZARD

The Green Bay Blizzard (1-2) won, 44-25, over the Iowa Barnstormers (0-2) at the Resch Center in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Friday, March 31.

Green Bay took the ball all the way down the field to start the game off with a touchdown pass thrown by quarterback Ja'Rome Johnson to wide receiver Terrence Smith. The PAT was unsuccessful by Blizzard kicker Logan Justus to make the score 6-0. The Iowa Barnstormers responded with a 38-yard field goal by kicker Gabriel Rui to cut the deficit to 6-3. Green Bay extended their lead with a touchdown run by quarterback Ja'Rome Johnson to make the score, 13-3.

The second quarter started off quickly as the Iowa Barnstormers scored their first touchdown of the night. Iowa Barnstormers quarterback Zach Reader connects with wide receiver Laquvionte Gonzalez, a successful PAT from kicker Rui to cut the Blizzard's lead to 13-10. Green Bay answered back with a successful 23-yard field goal, making their lead 16-10. The Barnstormers' next possession ended abruptly with an interception by Blizzard cornerback Shaquan Curenton. After a missed field goal from the Blizzard, the Barnstormers marched down the field and capped off the drive with a successful field goal by Rui, closing the gap 16-13. Green Bay extended their lead when Johnson connected with Smith, 23-13. Piling on, Green Bay was able to extend their lead to 30-13 as Johnson rushed for a touchdown. The Barnstormers answered back as running back Antonio Wimbush rushed into the end zone, cutting the lead 30-19. Johnson once again found Smith in the end zone to extend Green Bay's lead 37-19 going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter started off slow with no points scored by either team in six minutes. Green Bay breaks the slow quarter with a 12-yard touchdown run by Johnson, making the lead 44-19. Still fighting back, Barnstormers respond with a strike from Reader to wide receiver Caleb Smith, to close the game at 44-24.
