BLIZZARD DEFEAT THE BARNSTORMERS

The Green Bay Blizzard defeated the Iowa Barnstormers 57-41 at the Resch Center to improve to .500 on the season. The Blizzard are now 2-0 against the Barnstormers in 2023. 

 

Iowa opened up the night’s scoring on a touchdown from Zach Reader to former Blizzard wide receiver Keshaun Taylor. Green Bay responded quickly, scoring two touchdowns of their own. Quarterback Max Meylor connected with wide receivers Shaq Curenton and Marquise Irvin to take a 14-7 lead. With 39 seconds left in the first quarter, Taylor scored another touchdown, tying the game at 14 after one. 


Blizzard running back Terrence Smith opened the second quarter’s scoring on a one-yard run, but the extra point failed. Reader and Taylor connected on a 40-yard bomb for their third touchdown of the night, tying the game at 20 after Iowa’s PAT attempt failed. With just over five minutes to go in the half, Meylor found receiver Mike Green II for a Blizzard touchdown, giving the Blizzard a lead they would never relinquish. Meylor added a touchdown on the ground with 1:17 left, putting the Blizzard up by two scores, 34-20. Iowa scored with 20 seconds remaining in the half, making it a one possession game at the break, 34-27. 


Meylor opened up the second half on fire, scoring two rushing touchdowns, putting Green Bay up 41-27. With Iowa in desperate need of a score to stay in the game, Taylor scored his fourth touchdown of the night with 20 seconds to go in the third quarter, making the score 48-33 entering the fourth period. 


Iowa kicker Gabe Rui connected on a deuce, and Blizzard kicker Logan Justus hit a field goal, giving Green Bay a 51-35 lead. Meylor connected with Curenton for his second touchdown of the night, extending Green Bay’s lead to 57-35. With less than a minute left in the game, Iowa scored a touchdown, bringing the game to a close.


Green Bay now sits at 4-4, while Iowa fell to 1-7. The two teams will face off for the third time this season on June 3rd in Des Moines.
