Spokane, WA – The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the addition and partnership of the league's newest team based in the city of Spokane, WA.
During a press conference Tuesday morning at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, team ownership and league office staff announced that the Spokane team will compete as members of the IFL for the 2016 season. Spokane also introduced a familiar face as the team's new Head Coach, Adam Shackleford.
"Spokane is pleased to be joining the IFL as its newest member. With a rich tradition of quality football, great regional rivalries and sound economic model, the IFL presents a terrific opportunity for the Shock and its rabid fan base," said Spokane Majority Owner Nader Nani. "Commissioner Allshouse and his team have done a fantastic job of augmenting the league with other high quality and well-run franchises including the Iowa Barnstormers and Tri Cities Fever. We look forward to adding to that momentum."
"Today is great day in the history of the IFL," stated IFL Commissioner Michael Allshouse. "Spokane is one of the most recognizable and well-regarded organizations in all of indoor football. Their passionate fan base and professional organization represent the key elements the IFL strives for in its members. We are very proud to welcome the team and the Spokane community into the IFL family."
Head Coach Adam Shackleford rejoins the team after a six-year stint as the head coach of the Fever; a move which will only add to the creation of one of the league's preeminent rivalries. One of the most accomplished coaches in IFL history, Shackleford led the Fever to two United Bowl appearances, two Intense Conference Championships, and a four playoff appearances in six seasons. This will be Shackleford's second tenure as Spokane Head Coach. Prior to joining the Fever in 2010, Shackleford compiled a 50-7 record in Spokane, the best in af2 history (87%). He is the only af2 coach to guide his team to three Arena Cups.
Additional expansion and league news will be revealed in the coming weeks.
