FIGHTERS PULL AWAY FROM GLADIATORS LATE IN 60-55 WIN

The Fighters stayed undefeated early in the new season with a hard-fought 60-55 road win over the Duke City Gladiators Saturday night.

TJ Edwards continued his stellar play with three rushing scores, including a 12-yard effort that opened the game's scoring 3:44 and a one-yard surge that broke a 33-33 third-quarter tie.

Edwards also struck through the air twice. His 11-yard connection with Jerminic Smith came with 7:40 left and preceded a Levi Watson pick-six on the other end. That theft — a heady play by the big man, jumping a Duke City slot receiver's hitch route — gave Frisco (3-0) a lead it wouldn't let go of.

Prior to that pair of touchdowns, the Gladiators (1-1) were up by one thanks to Nate Davis' second of four aerial scores on the night.

Charles Headen had a 43-yard kick return for a touchdown to begin matters in the second half and Jimmy Smith also hit paydirt with 55 seconds remaining to make it an 11-point ballgame.

The Fighters will look to make it four wins in a row to start the schedule when they host the Massachusetts Pirates on April 15.
