BARNSTORMERS SHOCK THE STEAMWHEELERS

The Iowa Barnstormers (3-9) won, 80-41, over the Quad City Steamwheelers (7-5) at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday June 17.

The first quarter started off with a fumble recovery by the Barnstormers special teams. Kicker Gabriel Rui then made a 30-yard field goal, 3-0. Quad City responded quickly with a touchdown pass from quarterback E.J. Hillard Jr. to wide receiver CJ Windham Jr.. PAT was successful by Kicker Chase Allbaugh, 7-3. Running back Antonio Wimbush scored his first touchdown of the night. PAT was successful by Gabriel Rui, 10-7. Rui then scored a deuce for the Barnstormers, 12-7.

The second quarter was a back-and-forth battle. Antonio Wimbush charged in for his second touchdown, extending Barnstormers lead 19-7. E.J. Hillard Jr. then rushed for a touchdown, cutting the Barnstormer lead 19-14. Quad City special teams blocked a Barnstormers field goal attempt and returned it for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was unsuccessful, 20-19. Quarterback Daniel Smith then threw a dart to wide receiver LaQuivionte Gonzalez, 26-20.

The third quarter started off quickly as Daniel Smith found LaQuivonte Gonzalez again in the end zone, 33-20. Rui crushed the ball and made his second deuce, 35-20. Barnstormers continued to pile on points. Gonzalez found the end zone for the third time, extending Barnstormers lead 42-20. Quad City responded with a touchdown reception by CJ Windham Jr., 42-27.

Barnstormers offense was hot and kept piling on the points. Smith found Wimbush in the endzone, 49-27. After an interception by Barnstormers defense, Smith found Caleb Smith to extend the lead 56-27. Barnstormers offense did not want to stop. Wimbush charged into the end zone once again, 63-27. Hillard Jr. kept using his legs and ran it in himself. Two-point conversion unsuccessful, 63-33. Daniel Smith then had a fantastic touchdown run, 70-33. Rui then nailed his third deuce of the night, 72-33. Hillard Jr. threw a dart and found Jerron McGraw. The two-point conversion was successful, 72-41. Wimbush kept on going, he went for his fifth touchdown, 78-41. Gabriel Rui then scored his fourth deuce of the night, 80-41.
