RECORD BREAKING SHOOTOUTS AND LAST MINUTE HEROICS: IFL WEEK SIX BREAKDOWN
Week Six of the Indoor Football League delivered a slate defined by explosive offenses, opportunistic defenses, and a historic first in the league's streaming era.
From the reigning MVP's return to high intensity showcases, the weekend offered a glimpse into the unpredictability that will define the months ahead.
Orlando Pirates (3-1) at Jacksonville Sharks (2-1)
Final: Jacksonville 69, Orlando 33
Jacksonville utilized a massive 23 point first quarter to give the Pirates the first loss of their season in the Sunshine State showdown. The Sharks thrived on special teams and opportunistic defensive play to keep Orlando at arm's length.
Jimmie Robinson Jr. cemented his status as an all-purpose nightmare, accounting for four total touchdowns and 166 total yards.
Kicker Marc Orozco was a weapon for Jacksonville, nailing a 31 yard field goal and scoring a deuce on a kickoff, while Dylan Brown iced the game with a 50 yard interception return for a touchdown.
Orlando quarterback Paxton DeLaurent threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns, connecting with Thomas Owens 7 times for 74 yards and a score.
Nyqwan Murray and Teo Redding also caught touchdowns, while Pooka Williams added 56 receiving yards.
However, the Pirates' inability to establish a run game stalled their comeback hopes, as the team averaged just 1.5 yards per carry. Despite rushing scores from Williams and Redding, the Orlando ground attack managed only 35 total yards.
On the defensive side, Mike Mason led the Pirates with six total tackles including five solo stops, while Ro Torrence added four tackles and a pass breakup to slow the Jacksonville air attack.
Iowa Barnstormers (0-4) at Green Bay Blizzard (4-1)
Final: Green Bay 55, Iowa 19
The Blizzard defense delivered the most stifling performance of the week, holding Iowa to just 159 total yards and capitalizing on mistakes to turn the game into a 36-point rout.
Tevaughn Grant provided the defensive highlight of the night with a strip sack that was recovered in the end zone by Allen Henry for a touchdown.
Blizzard's running back Demilon Brown was a multi threat weapon, reaching the end zone twice on the ground and adding a 45 yard receiving touchdown from quarterback Liam Thompson. Thompson had another clean game throwing for 153 yards and three touchdowns.
Quarterback Ivan Corbin scored all three Iowa touchdowns, but the Barnstormers' 25% efficiency on third and fourth downs prevented any sustained momentum.
Quad City Steamwheelers (2-3) at San Diego Strike Force (3-1)
Final: San Diego 73, Quad City 59
In what can only be described as an arena football barnburner, the Strike Force and Steamwheelers combined for a staggering 132 points on Friday night.
The game featured 15 passing touchdowns, but San Diego's late game execution and perfect third down efficiency proved to be the difference.
Quarterback Nate Davis was nearly perfect, throwing for 276 yards and a weekend high nine touchdowns on 22 of 27 passing which earned him week six Offensive Player of the Week. Wide receiver Shane Hooks was a nightmare for the Quad City secondary, hauling in six catches for 140 yards and four touchdowns.
Quarterback Daquan Neal kept the Steamwheelers alive with 270 yards and six passing touchdowns, while Quian Williams was a human highlight reel with 120 receiving yards, four scores, and a 50 yard kickoff return.
Despite the offensive overflow, San Diego's Devin Hafford led the defense with four tackles and a crucial interception.
Vegas Knight Hawks (3-1) at San Antonio Gunslingers (0-3)
Final: Vegas 62, San Antonio 35
Vegas continued its dominant run, dismantling San Antonio behind a clinical performance from quarterback Jayden DeLaura. The Knight Hawks dominated the trenches, recording four sacks and limiting San Antonio to a dismal 22% third down conversion rate.
DeLaura was nearly flawless, completing 16 of 18 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns for the Knight Hawks. Quentin Randolph was the primary beneficiary of DeLaura's efficiency, eclipsing the 100 yard mark with three touchdown receptions.
Ian McBorrough anchored the Vegas defense with 16 total tackles and two sacks, leading a unit that pressured Joaquin Collazo and Fred Payton Jr. all night.
Despite the lopsided final score, San Antonio found some offensive bright spots in the loss. Gunslingers quarterback Fred Payton Jr was highly effective in some spots, throwing for 104 yards on 10 of 15 passing and three touchdowns while adding 45 rushing yards and another score on the ground.
Deon Cook emerged as a reliable target for San Antonio, hauling in seven catches for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
Fishers Freight (4-1) at Tulsa Oilers (1-2)
Final: Fishers 40, Tulsa 38
In the closest contest of the weekend, Fishers Freight used a powerhouse running game to edge out the Oilers.
Fishers racked up 176 rushing yards, led by Dominic Roberto's 82 yards and a touchdown along with Felix Harper's 67 yards and two scores.
JT Stokes provided fourth quarter heroics with a 30 yard touchdown sprint to put the Freight ahead for good.
TJ Edwards II accounted for five total touchdowns but a lost fumble and a costly Jacorey Benjamin interception proved insurmountable for Tulsa.
Malik Sonnier was a one-man wrecking crew for the Oilers, leading the team with 7 solo tackles and being a primary reason why Tulsa remained within striking distance.
Northern Arizona Wranglers (0-4) at Arizona Rattlers (3-1)
Final: Arizona 44, Northern Arizona 32
The Battle for Arizona lived up to the hype at the Findlay Toyota Center, but it was the Rattlers' secondary that ultimately secured the bragging rights.
After falling behind 16-7 in the first quarter, the Rattlers defense took over, forcing three turnovers to ground the Wranglers.
Wranglers quarterback Ramone Atkins was intercepted three times, with Autjoe Soe, Carlvainsky and Yahsyn McKee Sr. added to their season tally.
Kymani Clarke and Max Meylor each recorded two rushing touchdowns, providing a balanced attack that wore down the Northern Arizona front.
Despite the turnovers, Atkins was a force on the ground, rushing for a game high 86 yards and a touchdown while adding three passing scores. Kenneth Gallop led the Rattler defense with six solo tackles.
New Mexico Chupacabras (1-3) at Tucson Sugar Skulls (2-2)
Final: Tucson 33, New Mexico 26
The Sugar Skulls get back to .500 outlasting the Chupacabras in a physical Southwestern battle defined by key stops and field positioning.
While New Mexico found success through the air, Tucson's relentless rushing attack and the steady leg of Kevin Macias secured the win.
Kicker Kevin Macias was the high point man for Tucson, accounting for 15 points by finishing 3 for 3 on extra points and nailing four field goals.
Tucson outrushed New Mexico 124 to 29, led by workhorse Tavion Thomas who racked up 86 yards on 12 carries, including a clutch 22 yard touchdown run in the final minute to seal the game.
Chupacabras quarterback Ja'rome Johnson threw three touchdowns to three different receivers—Damon Street, Keiondre Hall, and Isaah Crocker—keeping New Mexico within one possession until the final seconds.
Ja'Qua Godfrey led the New Mexico defense with a game high 13 total tackles. While the Sugar Skulls had Ahmad Lyons provide six tackles. Tyqaze Leggs also added a sack for Tucson.
Week Six reinforced the competitive depth of the IFL as the season moved past its opening stage. With week seven approaching, the league's young season continues to offer high stakes drama every kickoff.
