ATHENS INDOOR FOOTBALL REVEALS FINAL FOUR TEAM NAME FINALISTS; FAN VOTING NOW OPEN

After receiving hundreds of creative submissions from fans across the community and beyond, Athens Indoor Football has narrowed the search for the team's official name to four finalists. Fans can now cast their vote to help decide the franchise's identity ahead of its inaugural 2027 season.

Voting is now open through July 8 at AthensFootball.com, where fans can select their favorite from the following finalists:

Athens Bullfrogs

A name with unmistakable Southern personality, Bullfrogs celebrates Georgia's outdoors while delivering a fun, family-friendly identity. As a playful nod to the Georgia Bulldogs, the name also opens the door for an energetic mascot, memorable fan traditions, and the rallying cry "Go Frawgs!"

Athens Crush

Powerful, aggressive, and uniquely connected to Athens, Crush represents a hard-hitting football team while also paying tribute to R.E.M.'s iconic song Orange Crush. It's a modern sports brand with local roots and national appeal.

Athens Hedgehawgs

Inspired by the legendary hedges surrounding Sanford Stadium and the beloved "Dawgs" culture, Hedgehawgs offers a playful twist that is distinctly Athens. The name is original, memorable, and unlike anything else in professional sports.

Athens Panic

A tribute to Athens' rich music heritage and the legendary band Widespread Panic, Panic captures the excitement and intensity of indoor football while creating an identity that is bold, energetic, and uniquely tied to the city.

"We were blown away by the creativity and passion of everyone who submitted ideas," said team president Mike Sammond. "These four names each tell a different story about Athens, and now it's time for the community to help us decide which one will represent our team for years to come."

The winning name will be unveiled during a ceremony on July 29 along with the team's official logo, colors, uniform, and merchandise.
