GUNSLINGERS ANNOUNCE JONATHAN BANE AS HEAD COACH

The San Antonio Gunslingers announce Jonathan Bane as the team’s Head Coach for the 2026 season.

Bane began his football career in 2010 at Dakota Wesleyan University. As a four-year starter and three-year team captain, he left his mark on school history, setting records in every passing category. Starting in 40 consecutive games, Bane threw for 9,224 yards and 88 touchdowns, including a school-record 457 yards in a single game. He was named BSN All-American (2011) and earned All-Conference honors three times.

Bane transitioned to professional indoor football in 2015 with the Richmond Raiders, where he was named Offensive Player of the Year after setting multiple Professional Indoor Football League records, including 72 touchdown passes in a season and 11 in a single game, leading the Raiders to the championship game.

His professional career spanned 10 years across multiple teams, including the Tampa Bay Storm (AFL), Maine Mammoths (NAL), Jacksonville Sharks (NAL), Carolina Cobras (NAL), Frisco Fighters (IFL), Orlando Predators (NAL), and West Texas Desert Hawks (AFL). Bane remains the All-Time Leading Passer in the NAL and captured a National Arena League championship with the Jacksonville Sharks in 2019. He retired with one of the best win percentages in indoor/arena football history at 72-20 as a starting quarterback.

Bane’s career was marked by resilience. In 2023, he suffered a severe neck injury while playing for Orlando, requiring surgery and months of rehabilitation. He returned in 2024 to lead the AFL West Texas Desert Hawks with 45 touchdowns to just two interceptions before sustaining a career-ending spinal cord injury. Defying the odds, Bane regained full mobility after months of recovery.

In 2025, he returned to the field with the Gunslingers as Quarterback and Special Teams Coordinator, showcasing his passion, leadership, and knowledge of the game. Now, he takes the next step in his football journey as the Head Coach of the San Antonio Gunslingers.
